It's fair

The account deletion is fair. And I do sincerely hope that Blogshares will continue to evolve into a game for all with the contribution of people such as MLT, mars/iris securities, RWO, mad trollies, etc.

The policing work is time consuming. :-)

Good luck.

PHB

Finally, we have an artefact for "Management" - I haven't come across any Pointed-haired-boss in real life (pointed-haired idiots yes) but Dilbert's cartoon creation of Scott Adams manifests the anxiety faced by the general workers in an era for never-ending downsizing.

PS: I have left a message to Rodent of Unusal Size about the B$1 billion prize money. Please PM with a link to your sell order. I will complete it as soon as I receive it.

Enthusiasm quickly gives way to dismay when all one needs to do to make 150 billion in less than two days is to invent a couple of new nics (or collude with a few buddies), grab PB and trade/hype/PP a couple of times. Some argue that this is how the game is played. Still some argue that collusion is not outside the rules of the game. Others even argue that anyone can do it, just wait until its your turn.

Now that the mechanic part of the game has been greatly improved. Maybe its time to tighten up some of the rules and regulations so as to ensure Blogshares to remain an interesting game for all, not just the top 50 - profit without risk is dull and any one with less than 5 billion cash cannot take over PB and cannot benefit from the apparent loophole.

While it may not be practical to prevent people having multiple nics or forming cartels, the current pricing model can be modified to eliminate the disproportionate risk/return in taking over mega blue chips such as PB or MT.

One simple measure, for instances, is to disallow buy/sell (including thro the buy/sell order module) for 6 hours after a PP no matter where the buy/sell is coming from. This will dramatically increase the risk factor and at the same time, reduce the usefulness of collusion/multiple nics. The 6-hour freeze should also make it more difficult for a player to safely do two PPs in a day which are easily translated into over 100 billion profit (if the bug in the total quantity of shares in PB remains) or 50 billion (if the bug is removed) in 24 hours.

Nice Scripts OR Brilliant Play?

Hyping up Persianblog from B$400s to over B$25,000 in 14 minutes right after a hostile takeover.

Collusion, More Collusion

I personally think this is going a little too far, particularly after the heated exchange in the forum. It's all fantansy folks! I am no saint and I do PM other players to help me takeover or protect a blog but I have and never will do this:

"Companies" & "Weblog Hosting"

These two industries are defying MLT's logic - their price goes up instead of down.

I don't know, "Weblog Hosting" is simply a subset of "Companies", ie, any blogs which can be voted into "Weblog Hosting" will also belong to "Companies" but not otherwise. Currently, "Weblog Hosting" is B$194,000 with about 9 million ideas; "Companies" is B$152,000 with 3 million ideas.

Told You LOL

Players who had followed my earlier post about "companies" should have a handsome profit by now. The stock price is now where it should be at B$145,000.

Dodo is the one who get the last big cheap lot. Congrats!

What surprised me when I post was that there were only TWO "companies" in the industry, ie, Apple and Microsoft, I said WTF, let's do something. How about sixlog, bloggers..... all these great great companies!!!!

Next, "Marketing" - it shouldn't be lower than "Search Engines" as all the search engines are simply a marketing tool.

Business Ethics

This sub-industry of Business and Finance has been stuck at the very bottom of our industry list for god-knows-how-long. I mentioned it about a month's ago in our IRC channel (#Blogshares, irc.wyldryde.net, port 6667) that we had to do something about it because it really didn't look good on our community as a whole. :-) Sprimal offered to help but came back in about 30 seconds and said it was hopeless - it had a negative number in its 'quantity available' and it's a huge quantity deficit. I checked today and it's still -22800.

However, I noted some one had at least made an effort to improve our "Business Ethics" - Seyed did vote in one valuable blog - Joi Ito's Web. MLT also helped.

Now with four not-too-bad blogs in the industry, hopefully we will start producing some nice ideas about "Business Ethics".

Currently, our "Business Ethics" is only supported by Joi Ito's Web, Church of the Customers, Whose Capitalism is this? and Management by Choas. Folks, let's do more! It really looks bad on us.

Recommended Buy - "Companies"

Look out for "Companies" ideas. Many of the mega stocks can be considered as company blogs, vote them in and I will re-index this evening to give you a chance to grab some.

Housing Cleaning

I will spend some time in the next few days to clean up some of the blogs which have been wrongly voted into our industry. Please, cooking is NOT ALLOWED in the Business and Finance Industry.

Please help to vote these blogs out. They are NOT even marginal cases. (I couldn't vote them out as they have more than 2 votes).

Contest - Proposed Artifact

1. Pick an industry in Business and Finance and write up a simple (more than one sentence) artifact description.
2. Propose it under this thread in the forum.
3. Once you get 'Artifact Added', PM O2 (ie me) with a link for a B$1 billion Sell Order.
4. Prize money will likely go up as does my Canadian stock. Check back later.

Industry News - Power is the Great Motivator

In a research conducted by Clelland and Burnham, they found that managers fall into three motivational groups:

1. those who want to be liked and their decisions are often aimed at increasing their personal popularity instead of promoting the goals of the organization;
2. those who are motivated to achieve by setting goals and objectives; they tend to focus more on their own achievements and recognition than those of the organization;
3. those who are interested in power above all else and focus on influencing people around them in their power-building in order to get things done within the organization.

The better and more effective managers, they concluded, are in the third group. However, they also noted that 'Power without discipline is often directed toward the manager's personal aggrandizement, not toward the benefit of the organization'. Discipline is an important ingredient in the 'influence game' - it differentiates an authoritarian in action who tend to weaken the morale of an organization from a power-motivated manager whose controlled and organized way in exercising his power will render himself a valuable asset for the organization.

Now replace 'managers' with 'industry moguls' and 'organization' with 'industry'.

I have hastily set up a web site for Business and Finance (I thought Aine's message in the forum was merely a proposal and didn't actually expect confirmation so soon). The site will serve as an archive of our 'Industry News' and hopefully, will evolve into a place to be for both new and seasoned players for anything relating to BUZZWORD BINGO.

Finally, a small contest from a 'poor' industry mogul - anyone who has his/her proposed artefact accepted for any one of our industry in Business and Finance will get B$1 billion from me. (you will find an appropriate thread in the forum for proposed artefacts). I will triple this prize money IF my Canadian stock goes up. Visit our site for updates.
